I am sure that it has crossed your mind on many occasion why wine smells and taste certain ways.
Our annual Earth Day Food & Wine Weekend is jam packed with … well … a lot of food and wine! That’s not all we’ve got planned, however. Here’s a look at five non-edible delights on tap.

Friend Ola gave me this “shortcut” pie recipe – but it wasn’t short enough for me. My hubby had requested that I make a chocolate pecan pie, and that he’d prefer a chocolate graham cracker crust over a homemade wheat flour crust. So, I got very lucky! The pie took maybe 10 minutes to mix up, then 25 minutes to bake and 10 to cool. My few changes are in italics (and some are in CAPS too) below.
Inhale for a minute. Now do it again, but this time imagine that you have traveled to Chile and an expert chef has made you a 5-course meal with no less than shrimp empanadas, corn and coconut soup, basil-scented mashed corn tamale, sea bass, pheasant breast stuffed with Porcini mushrooms, chorizo laced risotto in a Pinot Noir reduction, marinated steak in Chilean salsa, potato and onion timbale…but wait, we have to go back…I forgot to mention that this chef has also paired regional wines for each dish.

I just got off the phone with Martha Peretz, CEO and one of the founders of Simply Wine Festival, which will be taking place the evening of March 14th, 2014 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village, CA. I really loved her enthusiasm – this is a young lady who apparently got bitten by the wine bug fairly recently, but she got bitten hard.
Before getting married just last year, she attended a…
I’ve never devoted one of my columns to one block of one town in one wine area. Thinking no one else has either. So, for fun, I’ve written about some of the places on Pine Street, in downtown Paso Robles, which we visited on our last trip and suggest that you visit too!
The Hotel Chevalhad been highly rated and suggested time and again by friends as the perfect place to stay in…
In the shadows of the Pyranees Mountains, the terrain is rough and rugged, yet a durable Basque grape varietal has risen to world prominence and popularity.
This recipe, something hubby has made for years, has never been written down. One day a pal asked for it and boy oh boy it took him forever to dictate it. Needless to say I have no changes because…my husband is perfect. Even if a little slow after a nap.
